Day 26: My adoring Sebastian convinced me to hike 6 miles (and another 6 miles out) of the desert today. An experience he thought was "not too bad", but I considered basically hell.
There were signs up for using your vehicle for two tracking through the trail and that should have been our hint that it was a bit too extreme to undertake on foot, but we thought we could use the exercise. The sand was so deep we decided about a half a mile in to go barefoot.
About 2 hours in, we made it to the beautiful slot canyons at the end of the trail. The people that had passed us along the way in Jeeps and ATVs were impressed we had made it :)
After touring the trails and having some lunch, we made it uphill, against the wind, grueling 2 hour trek back. As exhausted as we were when we finished, we felt really accomplished, adventurous and pleased with the memories we made.
